Anna Huntley &
Mezzo-soprano Anna Huntley is currently mentored by Austrian mezzo-soprano Angelika Kirchschlager
When I first heard Angelika sing at the BBC Proms, in the Glydnebourne production of Giulio Cesare, I was completely blown away by her performance. Her singing, her acting and the intense commitment to her role was astonishing and incredibly inspiring. She is absolutely compelling on-stage and is a fantastic actress and artist. I began listening to her recordings and soon discovered her to be also an outstanding interpreter of Lied. Her career is a perfect example of the balance between both opera and lied - one which I hope to achieve.
I first met and worked with Angelika at the Wigmore Hall in London in 2012 having organised a private coaching there. We had scheduled an hour together, though it soon turned into a two-hour session of immense detail and depth. We explored every aspect of the songs to their limits which immediately opened new colours and depths of emotions that I could portray, subsequently pushing my technical boundaries. The experience made an immediate impact on me and left hoping that I could work with her again in the future.
Having already decided to spend quite a bit of my time in Vienna (where Angelika lives), I was soon able to see her again. Since we met, we've established a wonderful connection both musically and personally. Angelika is approachable, supportive and incredibly generous with her time. She has pushed me further in my development as a singer and performer than I thought was possible, and I can’t thank her enough for this. I am so grateful to be part of this special mentoring scheme.
